Ceasefire on the front from September 5: what is known about the possible truce
According to Ukrainska Pravda, Ukrainian Defense Forces units may have received instructions to observe a ceasefire along the line of contact from 00:00 on September 5 to 23:59 on September 8.
The outlet cited sources in several brigades deployed in different areas, as well as a high-ranking source in the security and defense sector. According to them, the September 5–8 ceasefire is a proposal from the Ukrainian side.
At the same time, no agreement on the ceasefire had been reported.
Meanwhile, a Suspilne source in the Office of the President denied reports that the Defense Forces had received instructions to cease fire along the front line.
"We will see how this (the halt in air strikes — ed.) plays out in reality tonight," the source said.
At the same time, Suspilne sources in the US Congress said that an agreement on a ceasefire from September 5 to 8 exists. They did not specify what form the ceasefire would take.
Suspilne sources in the Armed Forces administration, the command of the Northern Territorial Defense Forces, and two commanders of Defense Forces units deployed in different areas also denied information about a ceasefire along the front line.
At the same time, Suspilne received confirmation of a ceasefire from a servicemember in the command of one of the brigades defending southern Ukraine.
As Rubryka reported, US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to visit Kyiv on Sunday, September 6. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Russia should halt its air strikes while they are in Kyiv so that the US representatives can safely conduct negotiations and resolve logistical issues related to their visit.
"There will be no air strikes from our side, and Russia should likewise ensure a halt to its air strikes for the period needed to hold these talks and resolve the logistical issues related to this US visit," the president stressed.
The day before, US newspaper The New York Times reported that the United States had asked Ukraine to temporarily suspend drone strikes on Moscow and Russian energy facilities while US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were visiting.
Washington also wants Russia to take a similar step. This reportedly means temporarily halting missile attacks on Kyiv while the US representatives are in Ukraine. According to the publication, the United States wants to create a certain "window of silence" during the diplomatic visit.
