Kostiuk and Stephens met for the second time in the past two weeks. The Ukrainian tennis player won both matches.

In the third round, Kostiuk will face the winner of the match between Australia's Kimberly Birrell, who ranks 71st in the world, and No. 19 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Marta Kostiuk's best result at the US Open remains her run to the round of 16 last year.

Another Ukrainian tennis player, Elina Svitolina, Ukraine's top-ranked player, also successfully cleared the second round of the US Open.

Svitolina, the No. 9 seed, faced Australian Maya Joint, the WTA world No. 72, for a place in the third round. Svitolina and Joint had not met before this match.

The match lasted 2 hours and 8 minutes and ended with Elina Svitolina winning 6:2, 6:7(6), 6:4.

The Ukrainian started confidently and immediately seized the initiative. Svitolina took a 4:0 lead, after which the players exchanged breaks. Elina held on to her advantage and closed out the first set 6:2.

The game changed in the second set. Maya Joint began playing more accurately and hitting the court more often. The Australian twice moved ahead with a break and, at 5:4, had the chance to serve for the set. However, Svitolina fought back and leveled the score.

A tiebreak decided the set. With the score at 6:5 in the Ukrainian's favor, Svitolina had a match point but lost the next three points in a row. Joint eventually took the set 7:6(6).

In the deciding set, Svitolina regained the initiative and began outplaying her opponent with more confidence. The Ukrainian broke twice and went ahead 4:3. At the same time, Joint cut the deficit to one break and saved three of Svitolina's match points on her next service game.

At the decisive moment, the Ukrainian made no mistakes on her own serve and closed out the set 6:4. In this way, Svitolina secured her place in the third round of the US Open.

During the match, the Ukrainian served four aces, made two double faults, and converted eight break points. Joint recorded three aces, six double faults, and five breaks.
