"Nedopysani" project honors 289 writers and literature professionals killed by Russia with new memorial website

The website has been launched in beta format. The team continues to add new profiles and update already published materials. It plans to complete the main work on filling the platform by the end of autumn 2026.

The archive continues to grow based on interviews, documents, texts, photographs, and other materials. The team recorded some conversations with relatives and loved ones of the dead at the start of work on "Nedopysani." It later returned to some stories to verify facts and add information.

Due to the large volume of materials, the team will publish new profiles and updates gradually, after verification and editorial processing. Users who notice an error or inaccuracy, or who have additional information or materials about a person featured on the site, can contact the team by email. They can also help collect materials for the archive.

The platform includes a "Share a name" form, which allows users to suggest a person for inclusion in the project.

Users can search for literature professionals on the site by professional category. These include prose, poetry, essays, fiction, children's literature, literary studies, translation, nonfiction, literary promotion, publishing, library work and archives, editing, education, and science.

The platform also offers filters by year of death, region of birth, field of activity, and military service. The names on the site are also divided into the periods 2014–2022 and 2022–2026.

At the same time, the project covers more than well-known writers. "Nedopysani" collects information about people who worked at different stages of the literary process.

The authors of "Nedopysani" are Olena Herasymiuk, a veteran, poet, civic activist, and paramedic with the Hospitallers volunteer medical battalion, and Yevhen Lir, a serviceman, volunteer, writer, and translator who co-founded the project "Your Underground Humanities" and the publishing house of the same name.

Herasymiuk and Lir began compiling the list of literature professionals killed by Russia in spring 2023.

At the initial stage, they searched for information in news reports, on social media, and in search engines. Some names could be identified immediately after reports of deaths, while other stories required a long search.

From the start, relatives and loved ones have provided the team with photographs, documents, texts, and personal testimonies. "Nedopysani," according to the website, became possible, in particular, thanks to their cooperation.
