NATO Responds To Reports Of Secret Russian Drone Launch Bases

NATO has stated it is closely monitoring Russian military activity, including anything related to long-range strike capabilities and the use of drones capable of hitting the territory of Alliance member states.

This was said by a NATO official in comments to “Interfax-Ukraine”, UATV English reports.

NATO headquarters was commenting on information circulated by The Telegraph that Russia has deployed secret bases capable of launching powerful drones deep into NATO territory, some of which are already being used to strike Ukraine.

“NATO is closely monitoring Russian military activity, including its long-range strike capabilities and use of drones. The Alliance has the plans, tools, authorities, and forces needed to deter aggression and defend against any threat,” the NATO official said.

“We are strengthening our forward defenses and regularly training our ability to reinforce our forward land forces in the eastern part of the Alliance. We are also strengthening our posture by adding more flexibility and accelerating innovation,” he added.

He noted that drones are a permanent feature of modern warfare. “At the 2026 Ankara summit, allies announced the NATO Drone Edge initiative. Through Drone Edge, allies will invest around $40 billion in counter-drone capabilities over the next five years and will train five times more drone operators in their armed forces by the end of2027,” the agency’s interlocutor detailed.

The NATO official assured that allies continue to “strengthen resilience and refine the tools at our disposal, ensuring the Alliance remains ready to deter an adversary and defend every ally.”

It should be recalled that in September 2025, when Poland was first massively invaded by Russian drones, some of them flew more than 200 km beyond the eastern border.

Over the weekend, Romania informed allies of another drone shootdown that had violated the country’s airspace.
