Ukrainian boxer Khomenko wins U19 European Championship gold after beating Russian in final

The continental championship is taking place in Loznica. In the decisive bout, Khomenko controlled the course of all three rounds, after which all judges awarded the victory to the Ukrainian.

After the fight, Khomenko thanked his coach, parents, and team for their support.

"The opponent was very strong and well prepared. I thank my coach, my family, my father, my mother, and my team. Without them, I would not have been able to do anything," Khomenko said after the fight.

Khomenko's victory became the second win by a Ukrainian boxer over a Russian representative at major international tournaments since the start of the full-scale war. In 2022, Oleksandr Khyzhniak defeated a Russian boxer at the Strandja Tournament.

Overall, the Ukrainian team won six medals at the 2026 European U-19 Championships: one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.

It is worth noting that Ukraine's national team at this European Championship was represented by its second-string squad. It included athletes who finished second at the national championships. They were given the opportunity to gain international experience and demonstrate their level.

As a reminder, Ukrainian heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk defeated Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven by technical knockout in the 11th round.

Also, Ukrainian boxer Anastasiia Petrenko won the vacant IBO world title in the light flyweight division, securing Ukraine's first women's world boxing title in 24 years.
