Strike on Russian Defense Industry Plant and Shutdown of Petrochemical Giant: Ukrainian Forces Hit Key Enemy Targets

On the night of August 16, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an important enterprise of Russia’s military-industrial complex — the Kamensky Plant in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov region, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

A fire was recorded at the facility. The extent of the damage and the results of the strike are still being assessed, UATV English reports.

“The Kamensky Plant is an enterprise of Russia’s defense industry that produces solid rocket fuel for Uragan, Smerch, and Tornado-S multiple rocket launchers, as well as for a number of missile systems and aviation weapons. The company’s products are directly involved in meeting the needs of the Russian Armed Forces,” the General Staff said.

The General Staff also reported that an analysis of additional data confirmed the shutdown of ZapSibNeftekhim in Tobolsk, Tyumen region, following the August 10 strike on Gas Fractionation Unit No. 1.

“ZapSibNeftekhim is one of Russia’s largest petrochemical complexes. It processes hydrocarbon feedstock and produces polymers and other petrochemical products. The facility plays an important role in Russia’s petrochemical industry and in meeting the needs of its military-industrial complex,” the General Staff said.

Ukraine also confirmed the August 11 strike on several facilities at Orsknefteorgsintez in Orsk, Orenburg region, including a hydrocracking unit, primary oil refining units ELOU-AVT-3, ELOU-AVT-6 and ELOU-AT, as well as the 22-4M5 light petroleum fractions secondary distillation unit.

“Orsknefteorgsintez is a major Russian oil refinery that processes crude oil and produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, and other products. Its output is used to meet the needs of the Russian Armed Forces and the military-industrial complex,” the agency said.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces also struck the positions of Russia’s Bastion coastal missile system in occupied Crimea.

Ukrainian forces have recently intensified strikes against key Russian military-industrial, energy, and logistics facilities deep inside Russian territory.
