“That Day”: President and First Lady Visit Interactive Exhibition Marking 35th Anniversary of Restored Independence

Today, August 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the interactive exhibition “That Day,” dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence. The president announced this on Telegram, UATV English reports.

“The exhibition ‘That Day’ is about Ukrainian men and women. About our history, our present, and the future of our state. About the great day of August 24, 1991, about the path we’ve already traveled, about our struggle, our strength, our memory, about the inherent traits of the Ukrainian character, and about how we envision our own tomorrow — and one more, no less important, ‘that day’ — when Ukraine achieves a peace worthy of it,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

He said visitors to the exhibition can expect interactive zones dedicated to the events surrounding the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, works by prominent Ukrainian artists, and VR technology that allows visitors to step into the president of Ukraine’s office, find themselves in the Verkhovna Rada’s session hall, and see the night sky exactly as it looked on August 24, 1991.

“For the first time, the symbols of the Head of the Ukrainian State will be presented to the general public: the mace, the seal, the presidential insignia and standard, and international honors received during the full-scale war,” the Ukrainian president concluded.

As a reminder, on August 23 Ukrainians are marking State Flag Day. Amid Russia’s full-scale invasion, the holiday has taken on special significance. The colors of the Ukrainian flag have become a symbol of resilience, steadfastness, and resistance to the aggression of the Russian occupiers.
