Germany announces €10 million in new aid for Ukraine's environment
"For the first time, German Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider arrived in Ukraine on an official visit. Together with a delegation of German entrepreneurs, he visited the Skolivski Beskydy National Nature Park to see firsthand how Ukraine's protected areas operate and what challenges they face during the war," the post said.
Together with the delegation of German entrepreneurs, Schneider visited the Skolivski Beskydy National Nature Park, where he learned about the work of the protected area and the results of years of cooperation between Ukraine and Germany.
The support will focus on managing natural heritage during the war, including UNESCO World Heritage sites.
"Ukraine is a fantastic country with enormous natural wealth. We support Ukraine not only in its fight for freedom, but also in ensuring that it has a future after the war. And an integral part of this future is this natural wealth, unique to Europe," Schneider said.
During the visit, it was also emphasized that nature conservation can go hand in hand with local economic development. National parks can serve as a foundation for:
Ulf Zimmermann, head of Germany's Müritz National Park, also visited Skolivski Beskydy. In spring 2022, he provided humanitarian aid to internally displaced people who had found shelter in the national park.
