Ukraine returns 11 more children from occupied Kherson region, including boy forced into propaganda events
The rescue operation took place with the assistance of the charity Save Ukraine as part of the presidential initiative Bring Kids Back UA.
Prokudin added that rescuers managed to return a 14-year-old boy whom the occupiers forced to attend propaganda events and tried to impose a foreign identity on. Despite constant pressure, he maintained his Ukrainian position and waited for a chance to leave.
Another family had to send their 8-year-old child to a Russian school after threats that he would be taken to an orphanage. When the boy became seriously ill, doctors refused to treat him because his mother did not have a Russian passport.
All those rescued are now safe and undergoing rehabilitation at Hope and Recovery centers.
The head of the regional military administration said that since the beginning of 2026, 135 children have already been returned from the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region.
Background
Bring Kids Back UA is an initiative of the President of Ukraine that brings together state institutions, civil society, and international partners to search for, return, and reintegrate Ukrainian children deported and forcibly displaced by Russia.
As Rubryka wrote, the state provides comprehensive support to children who return to Ukrainian-controlled territory after deportation, forced displacement, or from temporarily occupied territories, and the government has introduced a one-time payment for them.
It is worth adding that the Ukrainian Child Rights Network civil union has launched a chatbot to collect requests on returning children and young people from occupation and deportation. The tool allows users to submit a request to return a child or young person under 23, report a loss of contact with a family, and receive information about support. All applicants' data remains confidential.
