United to win: Norway to help Ukraine strengthen air defense and develop FREYJA program

Zelenskyi also noted that Norwegian representatives are involved in the work.

"We also coordinated our activities for August. We expect to reach important bilateral agreements within the framework of the strategic partnership between our countries," the Ukrainian president said.

He also discussed Ukraine's protection against Russian strikes with the Norwegian prime minister.

Background

As Rubryka reported earlier, Zelenskyi stressed that since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has been receiving almost three times fewer anti-ballistic missiles than before. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyi, this is linked, in particular, to hostilities in the Middle East. That is why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense must do everything possible to increase supplies of interceptor missiles. At the same time, Ukraine's defense industry, together with partners, must work to build a domestic air defense system.

Zelenskyi also said that political motives may be one reason for the reduction in supplies of anti-ballistic missiles, including an effort to make Ukraine more compliant.

It should be noted that US President Donald Trump recently said the United States had not yet given final approval for transferring a license to Ukraine to produce interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. However, earlier reports said he might support such a decision.

At the same time, US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker said Ukraine would not yet be able to obtain a license to produce interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. The United States said talks on the issue are ongoing, but a corresponding long-term agreement will not be reached before winter.
