Ukrainian photographer Didkivskyi earns nominations at Abbey Road Music Photography Awards
Only 15 works made the shortlist in each category. The finalists will be announced in August, and the awards ceremony will take place in London on September 24.
The photographer himself admitted that he had long dreamed of taking part in the competition, so the news that he had been shortlisted was especially meaningful to him.
According to Didkivskyi, the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards is considered one of the most prestigious honors in music photography, and being shortlisted means international professional recognition.
In the Portrait category, the jury recognized a series of photos of Ukrainian singer Alina Pash. The photos were taken in Los Angeles in 2025 for Unison Magazine.
"For me, this series is not only about portraiture, but also about representation: it is important to show that Ukraine today also means strong contemporary culture. That is why I chose these photos from everything I shot over the year. There is a certain symbolism in this: a Ukrainian photographer photographs a Ukrainian artist, and this work receives international recognition."
In the Emerging Photographer of the Year category, Didkivskyi presented a series of concert photographs taken during performances by Doechii, FKA twigs, Kendrick Lamar, Charli XCX, and Loreen. According to him, he sought to show his own vision of music photography through a cohesive story united by color, mood, and composition.
Background
The Abbey Road Music Photography Awards were founded in 2022. In just a few years, the award has grown from a photo competition into a large-scale platform supporting music photographers, which also hosts exhibitions, festivals, workshops, portfolio reviews, and mentoring programs.
This year, the competition received more than 24,500 entries from 40 countries, 25% more than last year. British photographer Rankin chairs the award jury. The jury also includes musician Nile Rodgers, singer Raye, singer Damiano David, English Teacher frontwoman Lily Fontaine, singer Hikaru Utada, and other representatives of the music and visual industries.
