Ukraine reaches FIBA U20 EuroBasket semifinals, to face Portugal next

Ukraine made a strong start, taking an early lead thanks to accurate three-point shooting from Yehor Sushkin and an effective offensive performance by Maksym Hryshchuk. The Blue and Yellow led 17-13 after the opening quarter.

Ireland gradually fought its way back into the game and even moved ahead after halftime. Heading into the final quarter, Ukraine trailed by four points.

The turning point came at the start of the fourth quarter, when the Ukrainians hit six consecutive three-pointers to regain the lead and build a comfortable advantage. Ukraine won the final 10 minutes 29-15 to secure a 72-62 victory.

Maksym Hryshchuk was Ukraine's top scorer, recording a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Yehor Sushkin added 23 points, making six of his 11 three-point attempts.

The victory over Ireland was Ukraine's fifth in as many games at the tournament. In the semifinals of the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B, Ukraine will face Portugal, which defeated Hungary on July 17.

It is worth noting that three of the four Division B semifinalists will earn promotion to the elite Division A for next season.

On July 18, Ukraine's men's U-20 national team will play its EuroBasket Division B semifinal in Bratislava. Dmytro Zabirchenko's team will take on Portugal, with tip-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Kyiv time.

As Rubryka previously reported, the Lviv region recently hosted the Ukrainian Wheelchair Rugby Championships, bringing together nearly 80 veterans from across the country. Ahead of the tournament, participants completed a five-day sports camp that included training sessions, rehabilitation support, and competition preparation.
