Bessent Announces Launch Of “Largest Financial Operation” Against Iran
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US is entering the “final phase” of the war with Iran.
Bessent, on X, CNN reports, citing the secretary’s op-ed in Financial Times, UATV English informs.
“We are now entering the final phase. At dawn, economic D-Day begins — the largest financial offensive operation ever directed at an adversary,” Bessent said.
“The world must understand that our goal is to cut all the economic arteries sustaining the tyrannical regime, until Tehran stands alone,” he added.
Bessent also warned that if Iran responds to the United States’ economic actions with military measures, US President Donald Trump “will respond swiftly and decisively.”
The secretary’s statement echoes remarks made by Trump last week, who also threatened Iran with “economic D-Day,” promising to impose “colossal economic sanctions” on countries doing business with Tehran.
The US is seeking to intensify economic pressure in order to force Tehran back to the negotiating table.
Three days ago, Bessent said the United States would impose “the toughest sanctions in history” against Iran, explaining that such a step would reduce the need for new large-scale military operations.
