European leaders plan US trip to press Trump for Patriot interceptors for Ukraine – British PM

After visiting Kyiv on Independence Day, the British prime minister said Ukraine's air defense must be strengthened. According to him, the shortage of missiles for Patriot systems can be resolved.

Burnham suggested he would travel to New York in September for the UN General Assembly.

He also said European leaders could use the event for a new meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing." One of the main topics should be supplying Ukraine with US Patriot interceptor missiles.

"I've not fully confirmed the details yet but it's likely I will go, particularly after today's discussion… I'm quite clear what I need to do in the next few weeks.," he said after returning from Kyiv.

According to the British prime minister, holding such a meeting during the UN General Assembly remains only a likely scenario for now.

"That would seem to be the most likely pace of direction. Not confirmed yet, but that seemed like where most people's minds were going," Burnham said.

He added that the United Kingdom does not have its own Patriot missiles, which Ukraine needs. At the same time, he believes other European states can do more to help Kyiv with missile stocks for air defense.

Background

As Rubryka reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi previously announced that Ukraine would receive new air defense radars from France, which the Ukrainian side expects this autumn. Separate talks are ongoing on Aster 30 missiles, 600 PAC-2 missiles for Patriot systems, and joint weapons production in Ukraine.

It should be noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi earlier said Ukraine would receive a new aid package from the United States, including additional PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems.

At the same time, Zelenskyi said Ukraine needs a winter package of anti-ballistic assistance. According to him, the country needs at least 300 Patriot missiles to strengthen its defense.
