US Officially Removes Syria From List Of State Sponsors Of Terrorism — Rubio
The US government has officially rescinded Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, which had been in place against the country since 1979.
This is stated in a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, UATV English reports.
“I have authorized the formal rescission of Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, following completion of the mandatory 45-day congressional notification period,” he said.
Rubio added that he also rescinded the designation of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) as a global terrorist organization.
“These actions are another historic step by President Trump to give the Syrian people a path to prosperity,” the secretary of state noted.
According to him, all these actions were taken in recognition of the positive steps and further commitments made by the Syrian government, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, to fully distance Syria from acts of international terrorism.
As earlier reported, in July US President Donald Trump initiated the removal of Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, on which it had been placed since 1979.
