"Ukrainians fight for the security of us all": Latvia’s LSM and Ziedot.lv raise funds for soldiers’ rehabilitation
Wounded Ukrainian service members need long-term and comprehensive rehabilitation, but this requires funding.
Latvia launched a fundraising campaign on August 17 to support the rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian troops. Organizers timed the initiative to coincide with Ukraine's Independence Day, which is marked on August 24.
Latvian public media outlet LSM, together with the charity organization Ziedot.lv, is holding the support campaign "In thoughts and deeds together with Ukraine!" It will run from Monday, August 17, to September 13.
The campaign aims to provide Ukrainian service members with comprehensive rehabilitation. The funds raised will help pay for the treatment and recovery of wounded soldiers in Ukraine and Latvia.
Latvian public media journalist Odita Krenberga became this year's ambassador of the campaign "In thoughts and deeds together with Ukraine!"
This is a painful injustice, and we must help Ukraine, because Ukrainians today are fighting not only for the freedom of their own country, but also for the security of us all, for a safe Europe and Latvia," she said.
People can join the fundraiser through the Ziedot.lv portal or by calling 90204113. The call costs 5 euros.
Every contribution will help pay for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian service members in Ukraine and Latvia.
Background
It should be noted that Latvian medical institutions are increasing the number of Ukrainian soldiers they accept for treatment and rehabilitation. They made this decision based on the experience they have gained in working with patients affected by the war.
Latvian medical and rehabilitation facilities expanded the patient admission program, taking into account the experience they have accumulated while treating and rehabilitating people injured as a result of the war in Ukraine.
Since the start of the war, Riga East Clinical University Hospital has provided care to 985 patients brought from Ukraine.
Earlier, reports also said that Riga is hosting a temporary exhibition of specialized vehicles used by Latvian volunteers to rescue wounded Ukrainian soldiers on the front line. The event aims to draw the European community's attention to the needs of medical evacuation in Ukraine and raise charitable donations.
