Tusk welcomes Zelenskyi's steps toward Ukraine-Poland dialogue

In his social media post, the Polish prime minister welcomed the Ukrainian president's initiatives aimed at revitalizing bilateral relations.

"With satisfaction and hope, I accept the words and decisions of @ZelenskyyUa regarding the relations between our states, which must be based on mutual respect and truth," Tusk wrote.

The Polish prime minister also stressed that Poland is open to constructive talks with Ukraine. According to him, the two countries should discuss not only issues on which they agree, but also those that remain matters of disagreement.

"We are ready for a serious and friendly dialogue on the matters that unite us and those that divide us today," he emphasized.

As previously reported, on July 17 President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced a series of decisions aimed at strengthening Ukrainian-Polish relations. The initiatives include:

What is known about the recent tensions between Ukraine and Poland

As previously reported, on June 19, Polish President Karol Nawrocki decided to revoke the Order of the White Eagle previously awarded to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The decision followed Ukraine's move to grant one of its Armed Forces units the honorary title "Heroes of the UPA" (Ukrainian Insurgent Army).

The decision led to another escalation in tensions between Ukraine and Poland. In Poland, the move was viewed as honoring individuals whom many associate with crimes committed against the Polish population during World War II.

Zelenskyi later returned the decoration to the Polish president by mail, saying that Ukraine "would not argue" with Poland's decision while expressing hope that "the future will confirm respect for the Ukrainian people."

At the same time, representatives of Polish and Ukrainian foundations, civil society organizations, volunteer initiatives, and other citizens of both countries appealed to the authorities in Warsaw and Kyiv to act responsibly and engage in open dialogue based on mutual respect.
