At the same time, the Office of the President added that Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson noted the importance of the agreement signed in Kyiv on Ukraine's purchase of Swedish Gripen E fighter jets.

In addition, the Office of the President said Ukraine expects to receive 16 Gripen C/D fighter jets in early 2027, to be provided by Sweden as military aid.

Background

It should be noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson on June 30, during which the countries signed an agreement on the purchase of 16 Gripen E fighter jets.

Deliveries of the 16 Gripen E aircraft will begin in early 2029. The purchase will be financed through a European Union loan, with support from the United Kingdom.

Under the agreement, Ukraine will also receive aircraft equipment, technical assistance, and logistics support. Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel are already undergoing training in Sweden.

In addition, Ukraine will receive the first 16 Gripen C/D fighter jets from Sweden as military aid in early 2027.

On October 22, 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson signed a letter of intent to purchase 100 to 150 new Gripen fighter jets. The head of state called Gripen fighters "among the best in the world."

Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel are currently already training on Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, which are expected to enter service with the Ukrainian Air Force soon.
