United to win: UK, Netherlands, Finland, and Poland create new defense mechanism to support Ukraine
What does the decision involve?
Four NATO countries want to create a new international system that will allow them to invest in defense more quickly, without lengthy approval procedures among allies.
In a joint statement, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Finland, and Poland confirmed their intention to strengthen defense financing and increase the efficiency of defense spending to modernize their armed forces more quickly and prepare for future threats.
The countries also confirmed that they will continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

The new Multilateral Defense Mechanism is expected to become a platform for joint financing and procurement in the defense sector.

According to the mechanism's founders, they have already developed the technical model with a wider group of partners, and the next stage will be preparing an international treaty that defines the rules for its operation.
In the near future, the countries plan to begin official negotiations on an international agreement that will provide the legal basis for the mechanism's operation. After that, each state will have to complete its own ratification procedure.
The mechanism is scheduled for a full launch by 2027.
