Russia's night attack on Kyiv sparks fires in two districts after missile strikes, injuring residents
The military warned of the threat of ballistic weapons being used from the northern direction at 12:34 a.m.
According to a Rubryka correspondent, the first explosions in the capital rang out even before the air raid alert was announced, after which the enemy launched several more missiles. Later, jet-powered drones also attacked the city.
According to monitoring resources, preliminary reports indicate that the occupying forces may have used an S-400 surface-to-air missile system for the attack. It is noted that the movement of such systems often goes unnoticed.
The Desnianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of the capital suffered the most damage in the attack.
According to Klychko, a fire broke out in a non-residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
At the same time, Tkachenko reported that, as of 1:34 a.m., one injured person had been identified. Later, the Kyiv mayor clarified that the number of injured had risen to 2, with 1 hospitalized.
The State Emergency Service clarified that an administrative building and a warehouse on the premises caught fire in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
In addition, rescuers extinguished a fire at a garage cooperative at another address. The shelling also damaged an administrative building and trams.
In the Desnianskyi district, warehouse premises caught fire during the strike.
According to the State Emergency Service, all fires have already been contained. Rescuers and other emergency services are working at the sites. Information about possible victims and the final number of injured people continues to be clarified.
At 8:28 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that, unfortunately, there was information that a woman had been killed in the overnight attack.
Background
It should be noted that Russia has already carried out two massive attacks on the capital since the beginning of July. On the night of July 6, Russian troops launched a combined attack on Kyiv. In the city's Podilskyi district, a missile hit a nine-story residential building, causing its partial destruction.
On July 7, rescuers completed search operations in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, while they were still ongoing in the Podilskyi district. As of the morning, 19 people were known to have been killed and 58 injured, including seven children.
Also, on the night of July 2, Russian troops carried out one of the largest attacks on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The occupying forces used attack drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles in the attack. Russia's massive combined attack caused extensive destruction in the capital.
On July 4, rescuers in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district completed emergency and rescue operations at a 16-story residential building hit by Russian forces during the massive shelling on July 2. The death toll rose to 31.
