Solutions to win: Ukraine launches major project to produce its own guided aerial bombs, creates separate design bureau
The company and the design bureau have already moved on to the first engineering tasks.
BlueBird Tech said it launched the project in response to the current challenges posed by the war and the need to scale up Ukraine's high-precision, technological strike solutions.
Therefore, first of all, we will launch serial production of Ukrainian-made guided aerial bombs," BlueBird Tech said.
Background
In May, it became known that a participant in the Brave1 defense hub had created the first Ukrainian guided aerial bomb. The development work lasted 17 months.
The bomb is designed to strike fortifications, command posts, and other enemy targets.
Among the key characteristics of the development are:
It is also known that Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has already purchased the first experimental batch of these munitions. Pilots are currently practicing combat scenarios with the new weapon and adapting its deployment to real-world wartime conditions.
It is worth adding that in 2024, it was reported that Ukraine's Defense Forces would soon begin testing Ukrainian-made guided aerial bombs.
At the time, reports said the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine used Western-made guided aerial bombs, including GBU-39 and GBU-62 bombs of various calibers. It was also noted that the new guided aerial bombs include design components such as:
In addition, in the summer of 2025, it became known that Ukraine's Defense Forces had used an unknown weapon with a powerful warhead in the Kherson region. As Fedorov noted at the time, the technology was developed and tested on the Kherson axis through cooperation between the Brave1 platform, the manufacturer, and a combat unit.
An analysis of the video published by Mykhailo Fedorov indicates that the munition falls from a high altitude. Given the stated weight of more than 100 kilograms, it is likely a guided aerial bomb or a missile.
