Russia included in UN list of shame for crimes against children for fourth consecutive year

The document once again records the large-scale crimes committed by the Russian army on Ukrainian territory. The situation regarding the protection of children in Ukraine remains extremely difficult due to the continued attacks by Russian armed forces on civilians and facilities critical to meeting basic needs. The UN verified numerous cases of children being killed and maimed, sexual violence, the use of minors as informants, and attacks on educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and critical infrastructure.

According to the UN, 1,899 grave violations against children committed by Russian forces were documented in Ukraine during the past year. These included the deaths of 94 children and injuries to another 753.

The report also emphasizes that 2025 became the worst year on record since this monitoring system was established. Globally, the UN verified 38,558 violations against children in conflict zones.

In addition to the Russian military, a significant number of violations were committed by armed forces and groups in Israel and the Palestinian territories, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Myanmar, and Somalia. Alongside killings and injuries, the UN documented the recruitment of children into armed groups, abductions, sexual violence, attacks on schools and hospitals, and obstruction of humanitarian access.
