Japan to purchase Ukrainian SkyFall interceptor drones to strengthen its defense capabilities
According to Koizumi, Japan aims to secure delivery of the drones "as quickly as possible."
"The Ministry of Defense has already signed a contract with the Ukrainian company SkyFall to purchase interceptor drones, and we are working to ensure their delivery as soon as possible," Koizumi said, adding that Ukraine has the world's greatest experience in developing and rapidly improving defense technologies.
During the press conference, Koizumi also praised Ukraine's experience in developing and rapidly upgrading defense technologies. He specifically highlighted the so-called 'rapid feedback cycle', through which drones with updated capabilities emerge every two to three weeks.
According to the Japanese minister, Tokyo has much to learn from Ukraine, both in developing its defense industry and strengthening its industrial base. Koizumi stressed that Japan needs strong deterrence and response capabilities, and that specific solutions to enhance these capabilities will continue to be examined.
"Ukraine has accumulated the world's highest level of experience in new ways of warfare and is expanding its combat capabilities at an incredible pace. In terms of developing the defense industry and industrial base, we have much to learn from the so-called rapid feedback cycle, in which drones with new capabilities emerge every two to three weeks, allowing production to continue," he said.
The minister emphasized that Japan would examine all technologies needed to strengthen its deterrence and response capabilities.
