US Congress Seeking To Force Ban On Russian Fuel Purchases — Details
Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick intends to force a House vote on a bill banning any purchases of Russian fuel. He wrote this on X, UATV English relays.
The document will be called the “Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act.”
Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick announced that a bipartisan bill will be introduced to block any purchases of Russian oil. The document will be called the “Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act.”
Fitzpatrick plans to bring the bill to a vote through a so-called discharge petition. This mechanism allows the document to bypass House leadership if a majority of congressmen sign it.
This statement came a day after Trump announced an agreement with Putin on Russian diesel fuel, and the US Treasury Department issued a temporary license for its supply through April. Earlier that same evening, Fitzpatrick addressed Zelenskyy and stated that Congress and the American people support him “100%.”
The congressman said the bill will be forced to a vote through a discharge petition, and that it will pass by an overwhelming majority. This way, Fitzpatrick says, Congress will be able to block US President Donald Trump’s decision on purchasing Russian diesel, and the United States will not sponsor the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.
It should be recalled that Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, sharply criticizing Washington’s agreements with Moscow, stated that US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel is shameful and effectively makes the United States complicit in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
