Putin says he is ready for talks with Ukraine but insists on conditions based on Istanbul agreements

"Russia is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine. Ready on the basis of the agreements that were reached in Istanbul and, I remind you, were initialed by the Ukrainian delegation. So they were satisfied with everything at the time.

I see no reason for us to depart from those agreements," he said.

According to the Kremlin leader, any future negotiation process should also be based on the "modalities discussed in Anchorage," as well as what he described as the "realities on the ground."

"On the basis of the agreements reached in Istanbul, on the basis of the modalities discussed in Anchorage, and most importantly, on the realities on the ground.

As well as the principles I outlined several years ago during my speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Putin said.

Putin also claimed that the "Kyiv regime" is allegedly trying to create the impression that it holds strong positions ahead of possible negotiations.

At the same time, the Kremlin leader argued that Ukraine does not actually possess such leverage and is only attempting to project that image. According to him, "the realities on the battlefield look completely different."

He also made a number of statements regarding the war against Ukraine and the situation on the battlefield.

In particular, Putin claimed that:

The Russian dictator also claimed that Western countries have not yet launched attacks on Russian territory from their own territory because, according to him, they fear Moscow's response.

He once again accused Western nations of supporting Ukraine and supplying it with weapons.

In addition, Putin complained that a letter sent by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on June 4 does not create the conditions necessary for dialogue.

It is worth recalling that the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia was suspended earlier this year. Initially, the talks stalled after the United States, which had been acting as a mediator, became involved in a conflict with Iran.

Later, Moscow itself refused to continue the dialogue.
