Ukraine caps Euro 2026 Fencing Championships with record-breaking five-medal performance

At this year's European Championships, Ukrainian fencers won:

The team's only gold medal was won by 23-year-old Olha Sopit in the women's individual foil event. The achievement was historic, marking the first-ever European title won by a Ukrainian female foil fencer.

Sopit added another medal in the women's team foil competition, where she joined Daria Myroniuk, Alina Poloziuk, and Khrystyna Petrova to win bronze. This was also the first medal in the history of Ukrainian women's team foil at the European Championships.

Ukrainian épée teams also reached the podium in both the men's and women's team events. Although the women's team, competing with a renewed lineup, was unable to defend its European title, it still secured a place among the medalists. Meanwhile, the men's team won a European Championship medal for the first time in nine years.

Ukraine's only medal in sabre was earned by Alina Komashchuk, whose sole defeat came in the semifinal.

With five medals overall, Ukraine finished fourth in the medal standings at the 2026 European Fencing Championships. Italy topped the table with seven medals: four golds, one silver, and two bronzes.
