Ukraine returns 10 defenders from Belarus previously listed as missing
The headquarters said the returned men are servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine, including sergeants, soldiers, and sailors. All of those freed defended Ukraine in the Donetsk sector.
This stage was notable because all 10 servicemen had officially been registered as missing. Two of them had not been heard from since 2024, and another eight since 2025.
According to Zelenskyi, the freed service members served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard.
"All of them were considered missing. And it is very important that we managed to bring them back," the president said.
After their return, the servicemen will receive the necessary assistance and treatment and undergo rehabilitation.
The president thanked everyone working to bring Ukrainians back from captivity and stressed that the search for servicemen continues.
The second stage of the exchange resulted from the work of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War's negotiating group.
Background
It should be noted that Ukraine recently carried out another prisoner exchange on August 19 and brought 103 servicemen back from Russian captivity. Among those freed were fighters with wounds and serious illnesses.
As Rubryka reported, Ukraine and Russia held another exchange of prisoners of war on June 26. As a result, 160 Ukrainian servicemen returned home.
In addition to soldiers and sergeants, Ukraine managed to bring back 58 officers from captivity. Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said those freed included senior officers.
