United to win: European Commission approves €6.1 billion in new defense purchases for Ukraine’s air defenses and ammunition

Background
Earlier reports said the European Union would provide Ukraine with 1.4 billion euros generated from profits on frozen Russian assets. As reported, the European Commission sent EU member states a document proposing the use of frozen Russian assets to finance a new 140 billion euros loan for Ukraine.
The European Union also transferred another tranche of 3.47 billion euros to Ukraine under the Ukraine Support Loan program. The funds will go toward strengthening the country's defense capability and financing its most urgent needs.
In addition, the Council of the EU approved changes to the Ukraine Facility support mechanism and the related "Ukraine Plan," which defines the list of reforms required to receive funding.
