Ukraine secures release of seven more civilians from Russian captivity, including volunteer from Taira's Angels brigade

According to Lubinets, the release was made possible through humanitarian efforts involving Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, as well as coordinated work by Ukrainian state institutions within the framework of the Coordination Headquarters.

"We have managed to bring home seven more Ukrainian civilians whom Russia had been illegally holding in captivity for years," Lubinets said.

He noted that the returned civilians are between 35 and 66 years old. All of them were unlawfully detained by Russian forces in 2022 during the occupation of Mariupol and parts of the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk regions.

"As for the Kyiv region, these are specifically residents of the Bucha district, where Russian occupying forces committed atrocities in 2022," the Ombudsman clarified.

Among those released are:

Those freed also include a volunteer from the Taira's Angels Brigade, who was captured in Mariupol. He was detained alongside Tyra (Yuliia Paievska), who was returned to Ukraine in June 2022.

"I want to emphasize: Ukraine will not stop fighting for the return of every single person — both civilians and military personnel. Those who were unlawfully detained in 2014, and those whom Russia has deprived of their freedom since the start of the full-scale invasion," Lubinets said.

As previously reported, on June 26, Ukraine and Russia carried out another prisoner exchange, resulting in the return of 160 Ukrainian service members.

In addition to soldiers and sergeants, Ukraine also secured the release of 58 officers. According to Ukraine's Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets, the group included senior-ranking officers.

The youngest released defender is 26 years old, while the oldest is 66. Lubinets also noted that 21 people on the exchange list shared the same surnames.

Overall, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has succeeded in bringing home 9,606 military personnel and civilians from Russian captivity.
