Ukraine unveils cultural heritage recovery projects at URC 2026

"The key initiatives include restoring the Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum, setting up a rapid-response system for damaged heritage sites, building secure museum storage, and digitizing collections," the ministry said in a statement.

During the conference, the Ministry of Culture, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, the Ivankiv community, the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund, and the architectural bureau of French architect Martin Duplantier signed a memorandum of cooperation.

The agreement paves the way for restoring the Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum, once home to works by renowned Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko before Russia's full-scale invasion. Martin Duplantier presented the concept for the future museum.

The conference also featured the artistic installation CHAIOZZA × PRYMACHENKO, inspired by Prymachenko's work.

"The fund has already secured 4.3 million euros in contributions. To fully launch the first projects and expand support, we still need to raise another 15 million euros by the end of 2026," said Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna.

One of the fund's priorities will be to establish a rapid-response mechanism to address damage from Russian attacks. Up to 200,000 euros has been allocated for this initiative. The international heritage protection organization ALIPH has also provided an additional 200,000 US dollars in emergency aid for Ukrainian cultural institutions.

The first 30,000 euros have already been allocated to stabilization work at Mystetskyi Arsenal, which was damaged in a Russian strike on June 15.

Other confirmed projects include:

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund has raised 4.3 million euros so far. But to fully launch the first projects and scale up support, another 15 million euros is needed by the end of 2026.

The Ministry of Culture also announced that Greece has officially joined the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund, and that Serbia has expressed its intention to contribute.

According to the ministry, the number of cultural heritage sites damaged by Russian attacks increased by 36 during June alone, reaching a total of 1,949. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, 2,576 cultural institutions have been damaged across Ukraine; 540 have been destroyed.

On June 26, URC 2026 is also hosting a high-level roundtable on "Ukrainian Media and Information Resilience."

Meanwhile, the Zlatopil community in Ukraine's Kharkiv region is pitching several investment projects at the conference, including an industrial electrochemical park that blends rock salt extraction with alternative energy.
