Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia sparks major fire, injures nine

Before the attack, officials issued warnings of possible guided aerial bombing and ballistic missile strikes across the Zaporizhzhia region.

Explosions rocked the city, sending thick smoke into the air and igniting a large fire.

Fedorov initially reported one injured person. He later said the number had risen to six.

Later, he reported another increase in casualties.

According to Fedorov, the victims are women between the ages of 21 and 86.

Earlier that night, another Russian attack damaged a private home in the Zaporizhzhia region and sparked a fire.

A 55-year-old woman sought medical treatment following the attack.

As attacks on Zaporizhzhia intensify, the city is rolling out passive protection measures. Windows at hospitals, municipal buildings, and government offices will be covered with blast-resistant film, and entrances and exits will be shielded with anti-drone netting.

Russian attacks across Ukraine on June 26

Russia launched a large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine on June 26, firing seven Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles and 189 Shahed attack drones and decoy drones. Ukrainian authorities recorded impacts from four ballistic missiles and 11 attack drones at 12 locations. Debris from intercepted targets fell at six additional sites.

In Sumy, a Russian drone struck the roof of a nine-story apartment building. The attack also damaged a nearby parking area, destroying one vehicle and damaging about ten others. Emergency crews evacuated around 40 residents and extinguished the fires. No injuries were reported.

In the Poltava region, Russian forces targeted the Kremenchuk district with missiles and drones, hitting industrial facilities. The strikes caused partial power outages. Preliminary reports indicated no casualties.

Russian forces also attacked energy and civilian infrastructure in the Vilkove community of the Odesa region, triggering a fire. One person was injured, while the city of Vilkove and several nearby communities lost power.

In Kyiv, air raid alerts sounded twice overnight because of the threat of ballistic missile attacks. On the evening of June 25, a Russian strike sparked a fire at warehouse facilities in the capital's Darnytskyi district.

Two people were injured in the attack. More than 100 emergency responders and 23 pieces of equipment were deployed to bring the fire under control.
