Ukrainian hammer thrower Mykhaylo Kokhan wins silver at Zagreb meeting
According to the NOC, Kokhan claimed silver in the men's hammer throw at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial, held in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.
The competition is part of the highest Gold level of the World Athletics Continental Tour.
In Zagreb, Kokhan recorded throws under 80 meters in his first four attempts. After the opening three rounds, he was in third place with a best throw of 79.53 meters.
In his fifth attempt, the Ukrainian threw the hammer 81.42 meters, moving into second place in the final standings.
The competition was won by five-time world champion Paweł Fajdek of Poland with a throw of 81.89 meters. His winning mark also came in the fifth round, after he had not even been among the top five earlier in the competition.

For Kokhan, this is his third consecutive silver medal at Gold-level Continental Tour events and his eighth international podium finish of the season.
According to Suspilne Sport, Kokhan has competed in eight events during the 2026 season. His season-best and personal best stands at 82.38 meters, achieved at a Continental Tour meet in the United States, where he also finished second.
Kokhan has now extended his streak of international podium finishes to eight consecutive competitions. Overall, the 25-year-old has won three gold, four silver, and one bronze medal in 2026.
This marks the third time during the 2026 season that Kokhan has improved the best performances of his career. His throw of 81.42 meters is now the fourth-best result of his career.
As previously reported, Ukrainian canoeist Liudmyla Luzan won two gold medals at the 2026 European Canoe Sprint Championships in Portugal. She claimed victory in the women's C1 200m event and, together with Anastasiia Rybachok, also won gold in the women's C2 event.
