The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Metropolitan Epiphanius, published a statement on social media, describing the Russian strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as "yet another crime against humanity, against history, and against Christianity."

"As a result of the Russian attack currently underway on the night of June 15, the roof of one of the holiest sites in the Christian world — the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv — is on fire.

We ask for prayers to save this sacred site from destruction," he wrote.

Emergency crews continue to deal with the aftermath of the strikes on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where a fire engulfed approximately 800 square meters of the Assumption Cathedral's roof.
