United to win: Pope Leo XIV blesses humanitarian convoy with 20 ambulances for Ukraine's border guards

The Santa Clara Monastery Foundation, led by Sister Lucia Caram Padilla, collected the vehicles and humanitarian aid for Ukrainian border guards. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the organization has remained a reliable partner of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and has systematically supported Ukrainian troops.

Over the years of the war, Sister Lucia Caram has visited Ukraine many times. During her trips, she met with Ukrainian border guards, visited wounded defenders in military hospitals, supported the families of service members, and visited the burial sites of Ukrainian Heroes.

In addition to its humanitarian work, the foundation actively informs the international community about the war in Ukraine. Thanks to Sister Lucia Caram's efforts, the issue of supporting Ukraine remains on the agenda among the public in European Union countries, in the Spanish-speaking world, and among Christian communities in various countries.

During its cooperation with the Ukrainian side, the foundation has:

The current batch of intensive care ambulances and specialized vehicles will be another significant contribution to supporting the medical units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. These units save the lives of service members every day, both in front-line positions and during the evacuation and treatment of the wounded.

Background

It should be noted that on November 18, 2025, during an official visit to Spain, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi awarded the Order of Princess Olha, 3rd Class, to Sister Maria Lucia Caram Padilla, director of the Santa Clara Monastery Foundation, who has traveled to Ukraine on humanitarian missions more than 40 times since the start of Russian aggression.

As noted, Ukraine has received a wide range of assistance through cooperation with the Santa Clara Foundation.

It was also reported that at the beginning of this year, Pope Leo XIV initiated the transfer of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Generators, medicines, and food have already been delivered to the country to support the population amid freezing weather and damage to the energy system.
