Former Ukrainian bank employee suspected of fraud extradited from Norway after disappearing in 2021

"Thanks to cooperation between Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and the competent authorities in Norway, the suspect was detained and extradited to Ukraine on October 19, 2026," the statement said.

Law enforcement officials have not disclosed the man's name, but it is known that he was detained in Norway and handed over to Ukraine on October 19.

In May 2026, Norwegian media reported that a Ukrainian bank manager had been detained at a ferry terminal in Kristiansand.

According to journalists, the man had disappeared in 2021. As hromadske reports, the circumstances of his detention match those surrounding the disappearance of Volodymyr Budzinskyi, who previously headed a PrivatBank district branch in Husіatyn.

According to a Norwegian court, the man left Ukraine in 2021. On May 24, 2026, he arrived in Kristiansand for a holiday. In the years leading up to his arrest, the wanted man had been living in Germany.

According to Ukrainian investigators, between 2017 and 2021, the man systematically misappropriated funds belonging to residents of Ternopil region and a public organization. He allegedly did so by gaining unauthorized access to bank cards and accounts and abusing the victims' trust.

The total amount of damages attributed to him exceeds UAH 1 million.

Volodymyr Budzinskyi is suspected of theft, fraud and illegal activities involving payment cards and means of access to bank accounts. The alleged offences fall under Articles 185, 190 and 200 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Rubryka also reported that Germany and Italy had handed over two suspects to Ukraine in economic crime cases. They include a former member of Ukraine's eighth parliament, who investigators say was involved in laundering UAH 19.8 million, and a former head of a company's finance department suspected of embezzlement and credit fraud.
