Solutions to win: Ukrainian company reveals Mangal FPV drone interceptor

Phantom Defence unveiled its latest development—a specialized FPV drone interceptor called "Mangal."

Engineers created the system to provide air defense for military positions, facilities, and hardware against enemy FPV-type drones.

The Mangal interceptor deploys a specialized charge containing a net weighted with sinkers. Upon firing, the net expands in mid-air to physically entangle the enemy drone and bring it down.

The launcher module holds six charges and features two built-in cameras for area surveillance and situational monitoring.

Additionally, Mangal incorporates an automatic target detection feature designed to streamline and accelerate threat identification for the operator.

Operators can deploy the system in two configurations:

Specifically, personnel can use it to protect checkpoints, trenches, and critical infrastructure.

Phantom Defence representatives stated that the first mass-produced units of Mangal could enter the market within a few months.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that military counterintelligence of Ukraine's Security Service achieved results in countering jet-powered Shahed drones using a specialized interceptor drone developed for this purpose.

Furthermore, military counterintelligence officers from Ukraine's Security Service deployed the new Ukrainian interceptor drone for the second time in a single day, successfully striking a Russian Geran-5 jet-powered drone.

Background

Ukraine began systematically developing interceptor drones last year. During this time, manufacturers secured grants through the Brave1 defense-tech platform, conducted field testing, and refined their designs. Currently, several Ukrainian companies possess proprietary solutions to intercept aerial targets.

As reported by Rubryka, Ukraine initiated combat testing of its first jet-powered interceptor drones designed to destroy Russian jet-engine Shaheds. One of these new Ukrainian aircraft can reach speeds exceeding 600 km/h.

On September 18, Zelenskyi declared that two Ukrainian companies successfully completed combat tests of new interceptor drones, destroying a Russian jet-powered Shahed during trials. However, development of the interceptor remains ongoing as specialists refine certain flight control parameters.
