Yaryna Chornohuz's poetry collection in French translation wins Alain Bosquet Prize
The award recognizes her second poetry collection, dasein: Defense of Presence, which was published in French under the title C'est ainsi que nous demeurons libres ("This Is How We Remain Free").
"My second poetry collection, 'dasein: Defense of Presence,' published in French under the title 'C'est ainsi que nous demeurons libres' ('This Is How We Remain Free'), has received the French Alain Bosquet Prize, awarded by the renowned Gallimard publishing house.

According to Chornohuz, more than 3,700 copies of the book have been sold in France over the past year, out of a print run of 5,000.
The poet also shared the jury's assessment of the collection. According to her, the jury members said the award is given for poetry they consider:
"The jury said that the prize is awarded for extraordinary, philosophical, and bold poetry. It was a pleasure to know that literary professionals and editors on the prize jury see my work this way," Chornohuz said.
During the award ceremony, Yaryna Chornohuz and translator Frédéric Martin read the poem "If You and I Stay Alive."
According to Chornohuz, it was Martin who suggested publishing her collection in French. The idea came after he heard the poet read this poem in Rennes in 2024.
The writer also highlighted the changes that have taken place in Ukrainian veterans' literature since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. While it was previously treated as a separate literary genre, it has now become a natural part of the contemporary literary process.
Chornohuz supported writer Oksana Zabuzhko's view that the generation that went through the war has shaped a new type of Ukrainian literature, based not on retelling stories but on direct lived experience.
It was also reported that the poetry collection Poems from the Trench by late Ukrainian soldier and poet Maksym Kryvtsov will be published in English in the United Kingdom. The book will be released by Jantar Publishing in 2027.
In addition, it was reported that Ukrainian writer Yevheniia Kuznietsova's novel Ask Miiechka will soon be published in French. The book is expected to go on sale in early September.
