Scaling up robotic systems to reduce risks for troops — ex-Defense Minister Fedorov announces "Army of Robots"
According to Fedorov, after scaling up the "Army of Drones", the next technological focus should be the robotization of warfare. He said the most dangerous tasks should gradually be transferred from military personnel to robotic systems.
The goal of the "Army of Robots" is to protect people's lives. Fedorov emphasized that robots should perform the most dangerous work so that Ukrainian military personnel can return home.
According to him, the battlefield of the future should work like this:
Humanoid robots should evacuate the wounded and deliver ammunition. They should also carry out mining and demining, conduct reconnaissance, protect positions, and strike targets. They should be the first to enter areas where military personnel currently risk their lives.
To achieve this, the best engineers, military expertise, capital, and technology need to be brought together and focused on a single goal: making sure that robots, rather than people, do the fighting.
Fedorov also identified Russia's ability to quickly copy and scale military technologies as one of the main challenges. Therefore, he said, Ukraine needs to constantly develop the next technological cycle ahead of its adversary.
During IT Arena, organizers announced a search for companies and engineers working with robotic technologies. The team is also looking for a CTO or Tech Lead for the "Army of Robots".
Fedorov had previously spoken about the idea of a large-scale "Army of Robots". Back in 2023, he said that after the 'Army of Drones', Ukraine planned to develop a separate focus on robotic systems.
