Russian strikes kill six in Sloviansk, injure 15: bodies remain under rubble

According to Vadym Liakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration and Ukraine's State Emergency Service, bodies remain trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed houses as search-and-rescue operations continue, Rubryka reports.

The emergency service reported that Russian forces dropped four aerial bombs on a residential area of the city.

"Sloviansk: Three people killed and two injured in a Russian airstrike," the agency said in a statement.

Rescuers also recovered the body of one of the victims from beneath the rubble.

The strikes sparked fires at three locations. Emergency crews managed to contain the blazes, but temporarily suspended firefighting due to the aerial danger.

According to Liakh, six people were killed, and 15 were injured in Sloviansk on October 17.

He added that Russian forces used various types of weapons against the city throughout Saturday.

"In some cases, FPV drone strikes also proved deadly," the head of the Sloviansk City administration said.

As of the morning of October 18, the bodies of several residents remained beneath the rubble of homes destroyed by aerial bombs.

"Recovery operations were suspended overnight due to the security situation and resumed early in the morning," Liakh said.

Rubryka previously reported that on October 17, Russian forces launched an airstrike on a residential neighborhood in Sloviansk in the Donetsk region. Strikes hit two apartment buildings, killing one person and injuring 10 others. Search operations are ongoing, and people may still be trapped beneath the rubble.

Earlier, overnight on October 14, Russian forces launched three airstrikes on apartment buildings in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. Four people were injured, and there were fatalities.
