Ballistic interceptors and F-16 ammunition: Zelenskyi meets NATO Secretary General in Brussels

According to the head of state, Ukraine continues coordinating efforts with NATO to strengthen its defense and security capabilities. Both parties paid special attention to the imperative of maintaining uninterrupted weapon deliveries from Alliance member states.

Zelenskyi noted that Russia responded with new waves of strikes after another attempt by US President Donald Trump to reduce the intensity of attacks. Enemy bombardment hit energy facilities, residential buildings, and other infrastructure.

He stated that Russian forces repeatedly deployed ballistic missiles over recent days, while Shahed strike drones remained almost continuously present in Ukrainian skies. From the start of October 14 until the statement's publication, Russia launched nearly 1,000 drones.

The president also highlighted additional complications facing Ukrainian defenses due to restrictions imposed on Starlink operations in Ukraine. Under these circumstances, receiving ballistic missile interceptors and F-16 fighter jet ammunition from partners becomes critical.

Furthermore, Ukraine is working to secure new air defense packages. Zelenskyi stressed that the timely delivery of such equipment directly saves lives.

The NATO Secretary General also confirmed the meeting with Zelenskyi. As Rutte reported, the leaders discussed not only the energy ceasefire but also continued support for Ukraine from Alliance member states, including through the PURL mechanism.

BackgroundA summit of European Union leaders is taking place in Brussels on October 15–16. European Council officials reported that participants will focus on economic challenges, particularly energy prices. The news agency dpa reports that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is attending the summit in person.

As Rubryka reported, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs noted before the EU summit on October 15 that financial support for Ukraine costs each European about the price of a single beer, emphasizing that Europe can continue helping Ukrainians even if it requires slightly limiting personal comfort.

Additionally, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar, intends to hold talks with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, on Friday, October 16, to discuss evolving bilateral relations between the two nations.
