Zelenskyi meets Iceland's foreign minister to discuss energy and air defense

Since the start of the full-scale war, Iceland has allocated 133 million US dollars in defense and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as well as more than 24 million US dollars for the PURL program.
The president informed the Icelandic side about Ukraine's needs as it prepares for winter, with strengthening Ukrainian air defense remaining the top priority. Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that active work is now underway with all partners that can help.
The sides also discussed energy security in general and energy cooperation between Ukraine and Iceland. Ukraine is counting on further contributions from Iceland to the Energy Support Fund. The funds Iceland provided earlier are already being used to purchase a cogeneration unit, power transformers, and other critical equipment.
In addition to energy security and air defense, the Ukrainian president and Iceland's foreign minister discussed cooperation in technology and defense.
Ukraine has significant experience in this area and is ready to build partnerships with countries that help it and are interested in Ukrainian expertise.
Zelenskyi stressed that Ukraine is ready to share the experience it has gained during the war with international partners. He also thanked Iceland for its unwavering solidarity and support for Ukraine.
"The assistance provided earlier is already delivering concrete results, and we are grateful for this," the president emphasized.
Background
The meeting with Iceland's representative took place during Zelenskyi's trip to Norway and Canada. Earlier, on September 9, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said a drone nearly shot down the Ukrainian president's plane during takeoff from Moldova.
According to Støre, the situation shows the reality in which the Ukrainian president lives.
Zelenskyi arrived in Norway to attend the funeral of King Harald. During the visit, he also held talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. They met twice within 24 hours — on Tuesday and again on Wednesday morning.
On Sunday, Zelenskyi said he was traveling to Norway and Canada, where he planned to discuss anti-ballistic weapons.
According to the president, anti-ballistic capabilities remain Ukraine's weak point. Kyiv aims to develop its own system of such weapons.
Rubryka reported earlier that Ukraine needs to raise another 650 million euros to prepare its energy system for the next heating season fully. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said this, stressing that the coming winter would be difficult and that the pace of international support must not slow.
