Ukrainian film Theater of Veterans wins best documentary at Paris film festival
The story centers on the veterans' work on the play Eneida, staged by director Olha Semoshkina.
The film presents the theatrical process as a space for new opportunities. Through their joint work on the performance, its participants gradually regain a sense of full life.
Theater of Veterans tells a story not about pity, but about strength, dignity, and creativity. The film also raises the question of how society should interact with veterans — not by treating them as people to be pitied, but by seeing them as those who continue to create, work, and change the world around them.
For the creative team, the award at Cine Paris became an opportunity to share Ukraine's experience of "therapy through culture" and the Theater of Veterans as a practice that emerged in Ukraine with an even wider international audience.

The Association "Watch Ukrainian!" produced the film with support from the MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine (European Union in Ukraine).
Cine Paris is an international film festival held in Paris for the fourth consecutive year. It brings together artists, directors, and creative professionals from different countries, allowing them to present new works and discover talent.
The festival jury includes representatives from various sectors of the film industry and from companies such as Cineberg Germany, Sony, and others.
Background
It should be noted that the 13th Linoleum Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival will open with a screening of a restored version of the animated film Eneida. The festival will run in Kyiv from September 29 to October 4.
