Battlefield Gains Strengthen Ukraine’s Hand in Negotiations, American Side Had Come to Kyiv to Restart the Negotiating Process, — Main Statements From Zelenskyy, Witkoff and Kushner

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said successes by Ukraine’s defense forces on the battlefield are expanding the country’s leverage in peace talks and strengthening Kyiv’s starting position, speaking after meetings with a visiting U.S. delegation led by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, UATV English reports.

Zelenskyy said maximum effort must now go into organizing trilateral meetings, adding that further steps depend on Russia’s willingness to engage in genuine dialogue. He also said a new Ukrainian weapons development will be unveiled in the near future, with work underway to deliver results as quickly as possible. Separately, he said the United States and European partners will ramp up production of missiles and components for Patriot air defense systems.

At a joint press conference following the talks, Witkoff said the American side had come to Kyiv to restart the negotiating process.

“We arrived to resume the negotiation process and are focused on serious work toward the fastest possible resolution of the conflict,” Witkoff said.

Witkoff thanked Zelenskyy and said the endurance and courage of the Ukrainian people command genuine respect.

Kushner said the U.S. team is preparing a substantive framework in close coordination with European partners, noting that President Trump has directed the development of a new peace plan.

“The team is preparing a substantive framework in close coordination with our European partners,” Kushner said.

He added that preliminary discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin had touched on the mutual conditions of both sides and the role of the international community in preventing further escalation.

The visit follows a wave of overnight Russian strikes on Ukrainian airports in Kyiv and Boryspil, which Zelenskyy said appeared to be a deliberate reaction to preparations for the American delegation’s arrival.
