Trump is firmly determined to end the war — Kushner
"President Trump always says that the harder it is, the better. If it's worth doing, you have to give it everything you have. And so he is very determined to see an end to this war and the deaths, to see families reunited, and hopefully to do what he loves to do best, which is focus on investing in business opportunities to bring countries closer together, and hopefully that will bring prosperity and opportunities to the people of Ukraine and the people of Europe," he said.
Kushner said he believes the sides also need to determine how to create the conditions and agreements necessary for a long-term, lasting peace that would allow Ukraine to use the remarkable courage, ingenuity, and strength it has demonstrated to get through the past years of war.
"To become the great nation that it has the full potential to become. And so President Trump would very much like that," the US presidential representative added.
As Rubryka previously reported, Zelenskyi announced the start of talks with Witkoff and Kushner. The Ukrainian president also said that Ukraine had prepared to receive Trump's special envoys at the airport, but Russia effectively prevented them from arriving by plane.
The day before, September 5, the special envoys held talks in Moscow. Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin told them he was confident of achieving the goals of the war. The White House described the talks as "substantive" and announced that the next steps would be unveiled in the coming weeks.
It should be recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on September 5, where they were expected to present the Russian side with a proposal to end the war against Ukraine.
As previously reported, talks between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US presidential representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner lasted more than three hours. The Kremlin said the sides discussed ways to resolve the war against Ukraine, as well as possible Russian-US projects. The White House described the talks as "substantive."
US President Donald Trump had previously said that his negotiators were traveling to Russia with proposals to end the war. At the same time, sources close to the Kremlin told Bloomberg that the prospects for the meeting in Russia were "extremely low." According to them, previous visits by US representatives had produced no significant results, so there was little reason to expect that they would bring proposals acceptable to the Russian side this time.
As Rubryka reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Russia should halt its air strikes during the visit of the US presidential special envoys to Ukraine, so that the US representatives could safely hold talks and resolve logistical issues related to the visit.
On September 4, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov said that US-mediated talks on ending the war could resume as early as September. At the same time, he believes that real conditions for a ceasefire are unlikely to emerge before spring 2027.
