United to win: Zelenskyi details agreements with Merz on new air defense packages and Drone Deal

During the conversation, Zelenskyi and Merz discussed the Russian attack on the airfield in Leipzig. The Ukrainian president called the incident "another Russian escalation." According to him, the German chancellor informed him about the measures Berlin has already taken in response to the situation.

Zelenskyi assured Merz that Ukraine is ready to provide Germany with assistance in relevant areas, including sharing expertise and its own experience or joining other efforts where such support may be needed.

The Drone Deal agreement was a separate topic of the conversation. The sides discussed its content and the timing of its signing. Ukrainian and German teams are now finalizing the text of the document.

According to Zelenskyi, future cooperation should expand opportunities to protect both countries. The president also said he had agreed with Merz on an in-person meeting.

Background

As Rubryka reported, Ukraine recently received a small batch of Patriot missiles from its partners, as well as NASAMS missiles, and confirmation of ammunition deliveries for Crotale.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Berlin is joining the PURL mechanism for the fourth time. Under this mechanism, partners finance the purchase of US weapons and ammunition for Ukraine. This time, Germany will allocate another 400 million US dollars to Ukraine for air defense and Patriot missiles.

It should be noted that Ukraine and Germany plan to expand defense cooperation. The main areas include joint weapons production, stronger sanctions against Russia, and the use of frozen Russian assets.
