Ukraine brings back 103 service members in new prisoner exchange

Among those who returned are:

Several officers were also released from Russian captivity.

They had taken part in battles in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy sectors.

According to the headquarters, those released are between 26 and 59 years old. The youngest was born in 2000.

After returning, the service members will undergo medical examinations and receive the necessary physical and psychological assistance. They will also receive state-provided financial aid.

The Coordination Headquarters thanked the US and the United Arab Emirates for helping organize the exchange. Work continues to find and return Ukrainians who remain in Russian captivity.

Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, said two of the defenders had celebrated their birthdays the day before, turning 34 and 45. Among those returned are also seriously wounded and seriously ill service members.

"At the same time, I want to stress here that I clearly understand: behind every Ukrainian who is a prisoner of war or missing in action, there is a family waiting. In particular, regarding several of the defenders who returned today, we were in contact with their relatives and helped resolve a number of issues. I continue to make this communication and support for families a key part of my work. And we continue to do everything possible to find every missing person and bring every prisoner home," he said.

Overall, since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has already brought back 9,716 Ukrainians.

Background

It should be noted that on June 26, Ukraine and Russia held another exchange of prisoners of war. As a result, 160 Ukrainian service members returned home.

In addition to soldiers and sergeants, Ukraine managed to bring back 58 officers from captivity. According to Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, those released included senior officers.
