18-year-old student from Chernihiv ranks among top three students at British college
According to the media outlet, Illia Shumanskyi became one of three winners of the annual Overall Achievement Award at Abingdon & Witney College in Oxfordshire. The college provides education to more than 12,000 students.
Shumanskyi is studying Creative Industries. His achievements were recognized during a formal ceremony held at Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and historic estate of the Dukes of Marlborough.
Shumanskyi's mother, Yuliia Zhdanova, shared the news of her son's achievement on social media.
"Illia received the Student of the Year award at Blenheim Palace. The college has more than 12,000 students. Two nominees from each faculty were selected, and all of them officially received awards and the title of 'Student of the Year.' From these nominees, the governors (members of the college's governing board) chose three winners. We are incredibly proud that Illia was among these three. Congratulations on this honorable award!
By the way, Blenheim Palace is a world-famous palace listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is also the birthplace of Winston Churchill. This makes the award ceremony even more special," she wrote.
For the award ceremony, Shumanskyi wore a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt. His mother and grandmother traveled to support him at the event.
It is worth recalling that Ukrainian school students won five awards at the European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO), held from June 12 to 16, 2026, in Gothenburg, Sweden. Thanks to this result, Ukraine took first place in the team ranking among participating European countries.
Rubryka also reported that the "Kuboїd" Museum of Mathematics, created by the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, received a special award at the Ecsite-2026 European conference of science centers and museums in Sweden. The award recognized the museum's achievements in engaging children and young people in science.
