Zelenskyi discusses stronger air defenses and Ukraine support with US congressmen

"An important visit in these difficult days after a massive attack. We are grateful to the United States, the President and Congress for strong bipartisan support, and to all Americans," Zelenskyi said.

One of the key topics of the talks was strengthening Ukraine's air defenses. The president stressed that Ukraine has a significant need for anti-ballistic missiles because of constant Russian attacks.

During the meeting, Zelenskyi also briefed the US lawmakers on the situation at the front and Ukraine's successful long-range operations. According to him, international partners see the scale of the losses Russia is suffering.

The parties also separately discussed sanctions policy toward Russia and cooperation with the United States in drone technologies.

Zelenskyi added that the talks paid considerable attention to the diplomatic process. He stressed that international negotiations must intensify and that there should be no pauses in diplomacy.

"The whole world needs peace," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

The Office of the President said the US congressmen stressed during the meeting that they see Russia's attempts to intimidate diplomatic representatives and force them to leave Kyiv. At the same time, they said such actions only strengthen partners' readiness to help Ukraine and maintain a diplomatic presence in the capital.

Jim Himes, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, assured that support for Ukraine, including intelligence support, would continue.

Blumenthal also thanked Ukraine for countering Iranian missiles and drones.

Background

As reported earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyi discussed Ukraine's path toward European Union membership and further work to strengthen air defenses with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

It was also reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi sent an urgent letter to US President Donald Trump and the US Congress warning of a critical shortage of air defense systems in Ukraine.
