Solutions from Ukraine: Government launches experimental drone project to deliver donor organs and blood samples

As Koretskyi noted, during war and in complex traffic conditions, transporting medical cargo by car can consume time that is critical to saving lives.

Therefore, the Government decided to launch an experimental project using drones for medical logistics.

The Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine will serve as the project's first testing ground.

"The facility already possesses three specialized drones capable of covering distances up to 700 km and landing on hospital helipads," the head of government noted.

Koretskyi shared that the drones will carry a special status and undergo identification in the air.

The Prime Minister added that drones will deliver items between hospitals faster, including:

BackgroundIt should be noted that to save an eight-month-old boy, SES rescuers deployed aviation for the first time since the start of the full-scale war to transport a donor organ. Thanks to the prompt work of rescuers and medics, they delivered the donor liver to Kyiv in an hour and a half, saving the child's life.

As reported, at the Center for Pediatric Medicine in Lviv, two-year-old Sofiika and four-year-old Bozhena received kidney transplants from a single deceased donor—a 49-year-old man.

By the way, the Transplantation Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv has led Ukraine in the number of transplants for five consecutive years. This represents hundreds of saved people who received a chance at a full life thanks to organ transplants.

Reports also noted that in Lviv, 12-year-old Nazar Mazur from the Vinnytsia region received a heart transplant from a 10-year-old girl who died in a traffic accident. Medics report that the boy is already recovering.
