Russia attacks Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight, killing one person, injuring eight, and damaging subway system

The first strike occurred late on the evening of October 18. The attack occurred amid a missile threat, as authorities declared a red alert in the capital.

According to preliminary data from Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, one missile struck a medical center building in the Desnianskyi district. At the same time, another hit a non-residential building in the Dniprovskyi district.

Medics treated two injured individuals. According to the mayor, both remain in hospital inpatient units.

The Kyiv City Military Administration also reported damage to educational institutions in the Dniprovskyi district caused by the Russian strike.

Russia subsequently launched another missile attack on Kyiv, damaging one of the subway stations on the capital's left bank. According to the mayor, debris falling near the station severed the power and running rails.

Due to infrastructure damage, Kyiv Metro reported temporary changes to Red Line operations.

All necessary specialists were on scene, including team members who handle the restoration and repair of subway tracks and networks.

Authorities will provide additional updates regarding the full restoration of line operations.

The missile strikes also caused new damage to civil infrastructure across Kyiv.

According to Vitalii Klychko, debris hit the first floor of a 25-story residential building in the Solomianskyi district, injuring three people.

At another address in the same district, debris struck a non-residential building.

In the morning, the SES informed that the overnight Russian attack killed one person and injured eight others.

Rescuers also noted that they documented the aftermath of the Russian attacks in at least three city districts:

According to sources cited by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Alex Raufoglu, the ballistic strike on Kyiv occurred without warning once again. According to his information, this situation has happened repeatedly.

Previously, the Ukrainian military received advance warnings about ballistic missile launches from the US. These notifications gave people several extra minutes to reach shelters and allowed air defense forces to prepare to repel the attack.

Background

It should be noted that on the night of October 14, a massive Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv killed three people and injured 22 others. Strikes targeted energy facilities in the capital and region, causing power disruptions in Kyiv. Buildings in several city districts sustained damage as well.
